Marquee Moon was released in 1977 and quickly became a landmark of New York’s CBGB scene. Television—formed in Manhattan—fused punk’s urgency with intricate guitar interplay and poetic lyrics, setting the stage for post-punk’s emergence. The title track, clocking in at nearly 10 minutes, defied punk norms with melodic solos and jazz-influenced structure. This album remains one of the most influential records in alternative rock history.
