Description: Released in 1982 as Neil Young’s first album for Geffen, Trans shocked fans with its heavy use of vocoders and synthesizers. Tracked in sessions split between Hawaii and Modern Recorders in Redwood City, CA, the record reflected Young’s fascination with electronic music and was partly inspired by his attempts to communicate with his son, who had cerebral palsy and struggled with speech. The album’s divided reception eventually led to Young’s infamous lawsuit with Geffen over “uncommercial” records, making this LP one of the most pivotal and controversial in his catalog.
