Matrix #: FACT 10
Condition: Brand New
Cultural Facts:
Producer Martin Hannett secretly remixed the album overnight without the band’s consent, removing much of their raw aggression in favor of his spacious, echo-heavy aesthetic.
The cover’s pulsar image—often mistaken for Joy Division’s logo—was originally taken from The Cambridge Encyclopaedia of Astronomy, which Peter Saville found by chance in a science library.
Bernard Sumner built much of his own guitar equipment for the sessions, including a custom speaker cabinet that helped define the album’s brittle, metallic tone.
