Year/Genre: 1981, Jazz
Matrix #: GRP 5504
Condition: VG+, sounds great, looks good
Cultural Facts:
Released in 1981 on GRP, this was one of guitarist Bobby Broom’s earliest leader dates after sideman work with Sonny Rollins and Art Blakey.
GRP was then pushing a clean, hi-fi studio sound aimed at jazz listeners who were also into audiophile demo records.
The lineup pulls from New York’s post-bop and fusion circles, tying Broom to the same network that fed players to Miles Davis and other bandleaders.
Good pickup if you’re into George Benson, Pat Martino, Grant Green’s later ’70s work, or early Lee Ritenour.
